Wahoos update from Bobby Mac

August 27, 2009

Dear Wahoo Membership,

As promised, the following letter is intended to be distributed to all 2009 Wahoo membership in good standing.   If you attended the annual meeting that was held in June, there was a lot of discussion and confusion regarding the procedure for amending the by-laws of the Woodland Hills Wahoos Booster Club.

The Board met early in August in order to review the by-laws.  If you read the excerpts below, you will note that the actions taken at that meeting were in fact done in accordance with the by-laws.  (Please refer to the selection highlighted in green below.)   Based upon this information, the board voted to accept the results of the election which was held on June 23rd and approve the amendment to remove the excerpt highlighted in yellow.

Additionally, it is my intent, as Board President, to appoint another nominating committee and will charge said committee with the task of seeking out qualified members who are interested and willing to fill the position of President and any other positions which may remain unfilled.   The election for vacant board positions will be held, as announced at that meeting, on October 18, 2009.  (See selection highlighted in blue.)  The results of that election will be posted on www.wahoos.org and on our blog site.

Section 1.  ANNUAL ELECTIONS:  There shall be an annual election, the exact date to be determined by the President, and at which time the Board of Directors for the ensuing year shall be elected.  The newly elected officers shall be installed at the annual meeting.

Section 2.   NOMINATING COMMITTEE:  Not less than 30 days prior to the annual election, the President shall appoint, with approval of the Board of Directors, a nominating committee of not less than three members.   Said committee shall, not less than ten days prior to the annual election, decide upon and make recommendations to the members the names of candidates for election to the Board of Directors for the ensuing year.  There is no limitation to the number of years a person can serve on the Board of Directors, however, an individual may not serve more than 2 terms in any one Board position and the President is limited to serving one term.

Section 4.  AMENDMENTS:  These by-laws may be amended from time to time by deletions, additions, or changes, by a majority vote of the membership present at a regular meeting.   Any such proposed amendments to these by-laws may be submitted in writing to the Secretary of the Board of Directors, this then being subject to approval of the Board of Directors.  In addition, any proposal to amend these by-laws may be made from the floor at any regularly scheduled meeting and be voted on by those present.

Once again, announcements to remind the membership of these meetings and the results of the elections will also be posted on our blog site.   If you have any other questions, please contact Bobby McAndrews at 281-650-9533.

Sincerely,

Bobby Mac

WAHOOMAIL UPDATE

Happy After-Season to you all,
Hopefully, everyone is having a relaxing summer!
Those of you who attended the awards ceremony will remember that Bobby McAndrews invited all interested WHSTeam Booster Club members (that is probably you if you are a parent) to attend the transition board meeting in October to further discuss the election of president and changing the by-laws. If you would like to attend, the meeting will be October 11th at 6pm in the South Woodland Hills community room.
If you were unable to be part of the awards ceremony - we have several awards to distribute. Please come by before the meeting (5:30-5:45) to pick up your medal/ribbons.
The towels that were re-ordered/back-ordered, will be available for pick-up this weekend. If you were waiting on your towel, please contact Denise Webb to make arrangements to pick it up. She has jumped through hoops to get these from our vendor, some of our Wahoo colors are a lot harder to find than you would think. Thanks, Denise.
Also, if you were a sponsor or know one of the sponsors personally, Camille Landry has the sponsor "thank-you" awards. Please contact her to pick it up. She actually even has some 2008 awards!
Thanks to everyone for a great season!

4th of July

The email you have all been waiting for....

The following are the official instructions from the Civic Club regarding the parade this Saturday.
  •     We will line up on Feather Lakes Way at 8AM, one trailer pulled by my vehicle, one open jeep for coaches and Sr.'s who are able to make it for the parade.
  •     We will put the finishing touches on the "fish tail" put the streamers on the jeep, we also have some 'bubbles' (pearled balloons) that will need to be inflated with helium at the last possible second (10min to 9AM) and attached so they don't burst.
  •     Any available hands that can paint stars, flags, or fireworks on faces of our team could be painting faces.
  •     Everyone should wear their WAHOOS shirts if possible, if you don't have one then wear red...
  • At 8:50 sharp we will load into the trailer and begin getting geared up. If you can lead a cheer this is your big chance! Judging starts at 9am and if all goes as planned we will be at the front of the parade meaning we will be one of the first judged.
  •     At 10AM the parade starts. We are crossing our fingers that Wal-mart will follow through with their offer to donate the ice pops - if they do then we will have ice chests in my vehicle that we will have a team of parents cutting the tops off of for other parents to hand out to the crowd as we did last year- we handed out almost 2000 and ran out halfway through the parade. It was a big hit and we hope we can do it again. We only had 2 boxes of ice-pops donated at the awards ceremony - so if you bought some and haven't let me know, please email me how many you have frozen so I can add it to the count. If you are planning on being available to help cut or hand out or walk beside the float send me back an email. EVERYONE ON THE TEAM IS WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE!!!!!
  • The parade route goes from Creekwood Middle School down Lake Houston Parkway to Kingwood Drive then turns right and heads down to Kingwood High School where it ends in the parking lot. We will cut back through the neigborhood and return to Creekwood Middle School to dismantle and say our goodbyes!
  • It will be hot so bring a water bottle WITH YOUR NAME ON IT.
  • Wear a hat if you want for sun protection, if you have a crazy patriotic one even better. The more spirit we have and show the judges, the more likely we are to take home a trophy.
We are so excited about this event, it will be a great memory for your kids and family. If you still have questions, send me an email to this address or carritacker@yahoo.com or text me at 7135150941. That will be the contact number for you on parade day in case you can't find us in all the hoopla.

Fw: Missing DS

WAHOOS team please keep an eye out for Nick Strickland's DS Lite.  He seems to have misplaced it at the Greentree Meet, and we have not yet found it.  It is Black with a Yellow Stylus Pen.  We are hoping that someone found it because there is no way we can replace it.

Thanks!

Alissa Strickland

FW: Divisionals

Ok, here is some more info for divisionals:

1. For any "tailgaters", you can bring your RV, but NOT in the team area. There will be NO vehicles of any kind in the team area.

2. Where the team area will be, there will be no marks that shows where the team area ends. This does not mean that we have "40" acres to set-up. We need to remember that Eagle Springs will be behind us.

3. Parents, once the swimmer has entered into the Ready Bench area, there shouldn't be any reason for them to leave the Ready Bench (except to use the restroom). This is to avoid any scratches once their heat has reached the 3rd bench.

4. Inside the Natatorium, there is a set of bleachers. There will be not be a section for the team, also, please do not bring in folding chairs.

5. Remember to have fun and cheer for your child and team!
